Contrary to popular belief, there are no skills or specific academic qualifications required in order for one to be allowed to write this test.
As long as you are above 18 years old and hold a valid South African ID document, you will be allowed to sit for the NHBRC’s technical assessment test.
If you are the owner or director of the company that is applying for the NHBRC certificate, you do not need to appoint a technical manager, however, you are still required to sit for and pass the NHBRC’s technical assessment exam in order for you to obtain the NHBRC’s registration certificate.
Below, we have a set of 198 NHBRC’s technical assessment questions & answers that can assist you with the passing of the NHBRC’s technical assessment exam.
You need 13 marks out of 25 multiple choice test questions in order for you to pass the test.
All the questions are multiple choice questions.
How many chances do I get to pass the NHBRC test?
2 maximum attempts.
The NHBRC only allows a maximum of 2 attempts to write the test.
If you fail the test more than twice, you will not be allowed a third attempt however, you can appoint someone else to write the test on behalf of your company however, you will need to issue them a technical manager appointment letter and restart the application from scratch and pay the application fee of R745.61 again.
There is no limit to the number of new people that you can appoint to write the test on behalf of your company going forward.
What's the best recommended approach for the preparation of this test?
On the paid version, we suggest that you print out pages 35 to 68 and try to answer these multiple choice questions before checking out our answers on pages 1 to 34.
Mark yourself and thereafter, focus all your energies on those questions which you got wrong.
How long is the NHBRC Test?
The official duration for the test is 2 hours however, in practice, test examiners have the tendency of running out of patience, therefore, ask them in advance how long the test is going to be so that they don’t pressurise you to stop before your 2 hours is up.
What's the difference between the R87.82 and the R3,168.15 home builders manual?
A VERY HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!!!
First of all, you will not find a single answer in the R87.82 manual, meaning that studying it to prepare for the NHBRC’s technical assessment exam, is an absolute waste of time.
All answers to the technical assessment exam can only be found in the R3, 168.15 SANS Home builder’s manual.
This book consists of a total of about 650 pages, however, it has such a poor table of contents structure that, the only practical way of getting around it, is to stick, sticker labels to the main content sections such as foundation, walling etc.
Is Fixonate part of the NHBRC?
No, we are NOT part of the NHBRC in any way whatsoever.
We are simply a consultation firm that assists NHBRC applicants with the passing of their NHBRC technical assessment test.
Over the years, we have managed to collect the actual questions & answers that the NHBRC examines from clients who have actually sat for the actual technical assessment exam.
Can I take the test questions into the examination room with me?
No.
Although the Nhbrc Technical Assessment exam is an open book test, unfortunately you cannot take the same very test questions & answers into the examination room.
Even your cellphone is not allowed to be on within the examination room.
Only the SANS home builders manual as well as other documents such as your ID book are allowed into the examination room.
However, you can highlight answers and scribble notes into the SANS home builders manual, which will make it quicker when looking up the answers under the extreme examination condition.
Remember, the NHBRC is trying to test your capability to look up the building regulations within the SANS Home Builder’s manual.
Please note that the answers as well as the references we make, are to be found in the SANS home builder’s manual that costs R3,168.82 and not the cheaper version of R87.82.
The SANS home builder’s manual is available at the NHBRC offices country wide, however, please make sure that you specifically ask for this book.
Staff members of the NHBRC are not their to advise you on how to pass the test, and what we have noticed, is that clients are automatically given the cheaper home builders manual which is normally included in the NHBRC’s registration fee of R745.61, only to find out that during the test, the answers are no where to be found in this book.
So please try to obtain the pricier version of R3,168.15, there is a good reason why it is more expensive than the other one.
